Will not dwell on things I can not change.

Will say that WordPress is a great tool!

Won’t say I am all-knowing — have never claimed to be so.

I am just a poor working fool with hobbies, and if you argue with a fool, then who is the more foolish?

    C A Abernathy,

I have seen your name on a variety of Abernathy search postings. I am in need of a bit of help regarding a unstable link in our Abernathy line. We believe we originated from Robert I-V and than from Son of V (Joseph). However, listings for Joseph from Robert V does not appear in most of my searches. There has been a reference to one of the Roberts (S/O Robert V) sending letters to his brother Joseph. We have the Location of Joseph;s wife Glaphira birth 22 Mar, 1785, died 18 Aug 1855. She is buried tin Apple Creek Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, County Mo. Her grave stone lists Joseph as her Husband. Their marriage took place 16 Apr 1804. Joseph was Born 13 Mar 1784 in North Carolina and we assume he died in Mo. But we have been unable to locate his burial location or death certificate. If the information we have is accurate, the line continues to Joab Abernathy S/O Joseph & Glaphira, born 22 Nov 1818 & died 13 Nov 1909. He is buried in Iona Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, Mo. Joab had 4 wives, #1Nancy Reed, Married 8 Nov. 1829, #2Winney Beal, Marriage 1 Nov 1831, #3Mary Smith, Married 1 Sep 1839, #4 Missouri Ann McClard married 10 Dec 1871. Our line comes from the 3rd marriage with Mary Smith. They had 7 or 8 children. #5 (we believe) was Alonzo L Abernathy born 1852. Alonzo was married to Lucinda Patrick on 17 Sep 1874. We believe she was born abt. 1857 (we do not have any information that we can find for her). Of this marriage, there were 5 children. #1 Bertha, #2 Albert, #3 Everett Sullivan (my father) born 9-17-1886, died 7 Jul 1963. There were two additional siblings, #4 Arthur & #5 Anna. We are attempting to solidify the connection between Robert V & Joseph, something substantial between & clarification as to the possibility that there may have been another sibling of my father called Linus and in essence just try and get our tree complete with some degree of finalization. Any help would appreciated if you have come across some data regarding the Abernathy’s from North Carolina to the Cape Girardeau, Mo. Area.

    • Gene:

I will have to refer you to a more experienced Abernathy/Abernethy researcher — Elizabeth Ferguson (nss8660@yahoo.com). If you want to know more about her Google her email address — she has been online for quite while, helping, many people.
She and I have had differences of opinion on research techniques, but she is the most well-versed researcher I have met over the years with Abernethy family tree research.
I might suggest that you mention that you were referred (copy the text you posted here, and send it to her). It’s up to you to say who referred you.

Best of luck with you search! Let me know what you find out. Glad that this WordPress Blog has been a help, even if in a small way.

        C.,

Thanks for the response. I have had contact with Elizabeth and she recommended a few things regarding a previous post. She did provide some detail that we were unaware of previously. Additionally, she recommended that we research various other available sites etc.. One was to continue researching through various media outlets…This was one of my attempts since I recently read a lengthy presentation re; your compilation of someone else’s work. After contacting that someone else, they were unable to provide anymore data since their path was directed in another manner. I am having the most problem with ascertaining the migration of Abernathy’s from N.C. to Missouri (specifically the Cape Girardeau, area). Will continue to do our due diligence and hope we can close the gaps with some documentation other than hearsay, since most of that was compiled from stories of the past. Most of that originated by those now deceased. Again, thank you for your comments and response.
